Paid Post Scams

I recently signed up with two paid blogging programs and... I'm not so sure it was a good idea. I'm talking about Blogadvertisingstore (formerly PayingPost, I believe) and the other one was Blogs4reviews. They had the exact same layout, the exact same process of application... To be eligible to take opps, one of the requirements was to install a code within the head tag of your blog. When I did that, my blog wouldn't load properly anymore. I'm not sure if it was just the BAS one that was problematic since I deleted the B4R one first and then lost the code, so I couldn't check. Anyway, I removed the two codes, but since I'd already accepted an opp from BAS, I went ahead and did the post. I should have done more research before going ahead with the applications since upon googling about the BAS code, I came across numerous entries about the program being a scam (they allegedly do not pay the bloggers for posts they've made) and then the code itself was supposed to be malware. I have yet to encounter a warning about B4R, but I think I'll wait before pursuing anything. Anyway, it's not like there were opps available (BAS had 6 for me right away, sigh).

To Start or Not to Start (Bidding on Projects)

I created another blog, but it's a private one. That's really for potential Odesk clients who want to view samples of my work. It has links to articles I've written for a couple of broadsheets as well as actual press releases, keyword articles, web content, etc. I've produced. It can be viewed only by selected readers, so hopefully that won't conflict with sites that had stuff I'd ghostwrittern. I want to get all gung-ho about applying for jobs there (I haven't started at all), but I'm terribly busy at this point, so I don't know if I should just wait or tell myself, screw it, I'm tired of your excuses, go make some money...

Rising from the Ashes of Something We'll Call "Flu"

I got sick (not flu) and somehow lost my blogging (and homeschooling) momentum. I wonder when I'll start feeling a hundred percent, so I can get my groove (the nerdy, bloggy kind) back. Btw, I have not renewed my Adgitize ad. As most adgitizers know, the going monthly rate was upped $10. Can't escape inflation, I guess. So, yeah, basically, I've been doing 100 clicks lately for that hundred points. Between trying to get the hundred clicks out of the way and feeling blah, my online time has not exactly been constructive. I'm vacillating about Adgitize though. I think I just need a little nudge before purchasing another ad. I miss the effortless traffic, lol. I also learned from one of the bloggers I met last Saturday that there's actually conflict between Adgitize and Nuffnang, but only at Glitterati(sp?) level. No strategic move from me just yet though. I still have to understand how Nuffnang really works, lol. I've recently joined so I'm still trying to get a feel for it. Maybe one of these days I'll sit down and look into it, eh? It took me months before I did that with Adgitize, lol.

Finally Doing Twitter!

It seems all I ever do online is click on Adgitize ads and drop EntreCards, lol. The endeavor pays anyway (not necessarily in money terms all the time, but the effort is worth it - traffic-wise and otherwise). Btw, I'm also doing Twitter now. Hopefully, I can do paid tweets soon. Follow me and I'll follow you back (http://twitter.com/wahmivy). Need to build up my network first, of course.

My Recent Attempt at Finding a Regular WAH Job

I recently interviewed for an online, work-from-home tutoring job. The interview happened via Skype at 10pm. Naturally, Marguerite had to take a long nap, guaranteeing that she would be awake for the interview. Thankfully, my MIL was here so she was able to take care of Marguerite while I had my interview. Not that that stopped the little angel from trying to sabotage me, lol. She threw all kinds of tantrums, waking up the dead with her shrieking wails (she was in the bedroom and wanted to come out here and take my headphones), which the interviewer naturally heard. Anyway, the job doesn't sound like something I could take on. I would have to make myself available after school hours and that's just not possible. First and foremost, Marguerite would be awake then. Second, I'm usually getting dinner ready around that time. Oh to find a regular gig that's uber flexi-time.

Understanding Adgitize

After months and months of using it, I think I finally get how Adgitize works. From earning .02 a day, I went up to .60. I don't know if advertizing is worth it especially since they doubled the monthly rate, but it definitely increased the traffic at Spinning Lovely Days (I finally tried it out a month before the rate increase took place - I think I'll go the half-full cup route and say, good thing I was able to try it out at a cheaper rate, and not, I should have started advertizing sooner). Anyway, other stuff I found out (should have known all along if I had taken the time to understand the program earlier) is I should have placed one set of ads above the fold, so as soon as somebody visits, an ad view is counted. Oh, and that's another thing. I started displaying a second set of ads to make a total of 10 ads. I also moved my Entrecard widget to below the second set of ads, so my Entrecard droppers will be sure to view the second set as well. This bears no conflict with Entrecard since the publisher no longer gets EC credits for cards dropped on the blog. More importantly, I finally learned (most Adgitize users know this right away - guess I'm just thick, lol) that you earn click points by blog hopping and not just clicking ads on your blogs. Anyway, I'm still learning to get better at it, like get techniques on how to increase page and ad views for more points. Maybe that'll take me another few months, lol. Anyway, I found this article helpful on how to maximize belonging to Adgitize. Check it out.

The Word on Work-Online.org

Some time ago, I joined work-online.org upon a fellow blogger's referral. It sounded like an okay site. They pay you to write "stories" (essentially keyword articles - 400 words minimum, btw) and they pay you 25 pence for each one while you haven't completed 100 stories. Go over the 100 count and they pay you 50 pence per story. Go over 300 and they pay you 75 pence per story. Once you have 500 stories under your belt, they pay you a whopping pound (a quid! gah! about 77 php for 400 words!) for each one. That's really not a lot, but to justify going for this rate (since I usually get paid by local publications 1k+ php for a 500-word article)- um, my understanding is that you can write about anything so long as you include the necessary keywords. Research isn't necessary (or bugging an expert to quote in your article). You get opps in bulk. You can eke out 400 words in 3 mins without the usual writing standards you adhere to. I was just waiting for the right time to start trying this site out when I came across this discussion in MyLot. This person has earned about 65 pounds and has yet to be paid. She said she'd contacted the admin a few times and she always just got assured that she would be paid, except that there has been no follow through just yet. She said she'd update us if and when she gets paid, but no word from her yet. I think I'll wait before writing anything. I'm definitely not referring anybody yet. If the word on the (cyber) street remains bad, I'll ditch it with no regrets.

Why I'm Ditching Socint

So I've really cranked up the effort on the online paying gigs. About a month ago, I learned about Socint.com from one of the discussions on MyLot. Whoever did the posting referred to the site as a PT socialize site, pretty much like MyLot. I joined up and later found out that it's not as cut and dried as MyLot, which allows you to earn actual money to reply to threads, send messages, etc. What happens with Socint is that you earn points for activities you do. These points will then allow you to join their raffles. It's like paying to buy a raffle ticket. The prizes include $10 to your Paypal or AlertPay account, iPod shuffles, additional Socint points (which will enable you to join more raffles), etc. Naturally, I was interested in the cash prize, the raffle ticket of which costs about 250 points (depending on how active you are - I wasn't -, amassing this many points can take anything from a day to a year, lol. It took me a month.). I think that particular raffle had a limit of 100 tickets, which meant that I had a 1 in 100 chance of winning. Naturally, I didn't win since I've always sucked at raffles, which then leads me to my point: I'm not a gambler, very rarely a risk taker and Socint is just not for me. The discussions are also not worth my while as I have yet to find a truly intelligent thread there. I can just wisely transfer my efforts there to the clearly more profitable MyLot. That's my take on it. Let me know if you differ in opinion. My mind is open to being convinced otherwise.

La Freakin WAH Vie

Aargh. I spent about two hours this morning, churning out 3 articles consisting of 6 short paragraphs. I thought they were pretty easy tasks to do, but apparently there's more to them than meets the eye. All three articles were rejected on grounds that they didn't meet required criteria. I reread the instructions and I'd be very surprised to find out which criterion I had not met. This is my first time to receive rejection when it comes to MyLot tasks and it's very off-putting. I really don't understand it. The quality is the same as previous works I had submitted. I felt confident about them as they were interesting to me. I had responded to the rejection requesting a specification of the unmet requirement. I'm still waiting to hear. The really bad part about this is that my daughter woke up early and was having a meltdown because I was not paying attention to her. I kept on telling her, just two more minutes, but since I'm OCD about checking and rechecking, I took longer. Priorities, WAHM! Naturally, I feel very guilty.
And then with Microworkers, I've performed 3 tasks thus far that went kaput or something while I was completing the task. That's so unfair. I submit requirements and then I get a message that the task ceased running and will be up and about in a little while. Hmph. I keep on forgetting to report this.
C'est la freakin WAH vie!

Making Cents

Hi. I'm trying out a few paying sites. I've been burned and bored by PTC and survey ones and have mainly been doing paid blogging and MyLot, but recently I decided to try my hand at Pickjack (pay to do trivia), Socint (pay to be social), and Microworkers (pay to do tasks). Of course, I'm still doing ads and have accounts under Adgitize, BidVertiser, and CMF. Hopefully, the cents from these different ventures will add up to a reasonable amount. If you have recommendations, let me know.

Read My Pics

Have you heard of Visual Talking? It's a novel way of communicating by sending pictures instead of actual words (although you can add text at the bottom of each pic to avoid confusion). It's fun if you've got plenty of time and if you want to be creative. The silly can definitely capitalize on this program. :)

Feel the Crunch

WAHM business has been slow for me lately. It's partly due to laziness, of course, but there are just too few opps I'll be willing to take on. The tasks over at MyLot (the ones I've been counting on to really beef up my Paypal account) are feeling the pull of the economy probably. The writing tasks' worth have been slashed down to half. I'm not yet desperate to give in to that rate. The key word is "yet", lol. Anyway, I still have tasks I completed weeks ago that have not been approved yet. I don't know what the deal is with that. The task provider usually takes only a few days (if not right away) to approve or reject submitted tasks.

Ads on My Blogs

Having since turned a page in blog advertizing (goodbye, Adsense - yes, there are some hard feelings), I now find myself really having fun. I'm currently dabbling with Adgitize, Entrecard, CMF Ads, and Bidvertiser. So far, I've had the most fun with Adgitize and Entrecard. I need to sit down and learn more about CMF and Bidvertizer to maximize the earning opportunities they offer. I'm also looking into doing Nuffnang too. Will update you on these matters as soon as I can. :)

Worrying about the Issues?

It's not that I don't care much about current issues, it's just that I'm off the faith that believes all things that are coming to pass right now were predicted in the Bible. The events are worrying, but also weirdly reassuring because many of them are fulfillment of the end times prophecies. You just do what you can to make things better, but know in your heart and head that your real home is elsewhere anyway.

MyLot Tasks and Fiction Blog

Here's a tale of me being dumb:
You know those MyLot tasks I've been doing with regularity (it's just my kind of online opp - easy to do, no real commitment - although I wish it paid more), well the past weeks, they'd been coming sporadically, I thought. What I would do was just click on tasks on the menu bar and I'd get to the dashboard. However, the day before, I thought of clicking "available" on the submenu board, did so, and found about three other pages of tasks, with a whole page of those tasks that I'd been missing. I wanted to smack myself on the forehead. All those days of missed earnings.
Btw, I've also ventured into something a little, shall we call it interesting. It's a combination of fiction and blogging. It's so much fun to do. I miss writing fiction for those weekly magazines, something I used to do regularly in my early twenties. There are publishers I can submit my stories to, but the ones I know kind of prefer the fantasy genre, definitely not something I'm comfortable with. Anyway, this fiction blog is something that I've monetized and it's a great writing experiment besides. I meant to keep it separate from my real blogging identity as it can get silly, but I've already been busted by one of my blogging friends (you know who you are, shuuuuush, hehe).

Couch Potatoes Talking about Endurance Sports

Once upon a time I got hit on by a triathlete and that's all the connection I'll ever have with endurance sports, I think. I do like watching adventure races. My sister and I followed the Eco Challenge in Fiji avidly. Of course, we did so in the comfort of our couches and air conditioning, lol. Anyway, here's a convo about endurance sports.

Take Us Back to the Garage!!!

I love music. I'm a real music fiend. I really don't get how I didn't get even a sprinkling of talent in this area when I love it so much. I had to stay in the periphery of the '90s band scene because I can't be in the band myself. I got to say I'm with the band a lot (a very mild groupie, lol) as a friend, a roadie, and later as a girlfriend. I know I married a musician, but life meddled and somehow we found ourselves out of the band scene. I think we can go back though, go back to our roots...

Slow Week?

WAH life started out slow this week. I got used to opps flying past from all directions and my problem was judiciously choosing the ones that would benefit me most and would be doable in the time I allot for WAH. I hope it picks up soon. Anyway, as soon as I get some details ironed out, I think I might be selling another car here. Maybe even puppies. I'll confirm with Husband as he's really the one in charge of it.

Working with Lolcats

My back hurts like the dickens. I was forced to work sideways to accommodate Marguerite who insisted on watching lolcats videos on the computer with me. Today of all days, I had to take on 11 MyLot tasks and two paid post opps. First, Marguerite is spooked by the heavy rains and strong winds, so she had to stay within cuddle reach. The winds wreaked havoc with the cable connection so the TV's out of commission. Then because I didn't listen to my guts, I had to deal with, first, soiled underpants, and then wet underpants (shortly after giving her a bath too) that also resulted in a veritable flood. Fine day. Except for my poor back, I'm not really complaining.

More Talk about Hair

Okay, this is a very touchy subject for me. My hair is one probably one of the most unmanageable on the planet, so tread carefully. Apparently, we'd like to know more of your thoughts on hair and the troubles they cause, which in my case, is a life of bad hair days.

In the Occasion of Multiple Paid Post Opps in One Day

My personal blog is experiencing an influx of paid posts (good for the WAHM, but it might turn off my readers). Anyway, the other annoying thing about paid posts is the rule that a paid post cannot be preceded or succeeded by another paid post. And the posts before and after the paid post have to be legitimate posts and not just some space filler. What do I do then? Well, it's a pain, but I'm compiling some posts, most of them memes (haha), so I don't need to compose something from scratch in case I can snag 3 opps in one day.

A Hairy Topic

I have a bad hair life. I've constantly written about this in newspapers and magazines. It's practically impossible to style it since it's too thick, too frizzy, and, well, just too-too. I usually deal with it by tying it or braiding it. If I let it loose for more than an hour, the thing will expand to about 10 inches around my head. Yes, hair is definitely a delicate matter to take up with me.

What's the Buzz on Memorial Day?

So I was watching the Today Show the other day and they had two guests answering all sorts of trivia questions about Memorial Day. I didn't know it was called Decoration Day before. That little bit might come in useful in my next round of Trivial Pursuit.

Turning Down a Part-time WOH Opp

I received a call from the school I considered working for last year. They need another part-time Spanish teacher. While a regular income would definitely make things much more comfortable for us at this point, I think I'll have to beg off again as our setup will not allow it. My experience with nannies certainly left me helper-shy. I don't think I can leave my daughter with such regularity in anybody's care other than her grandmothers'. My MIL works full-time while my mom has her hands full being my sister's caregiver. Anyway, it shouldn't be their problem and since I'm not ready to entrust the care of my daughter to anybody else, I have no choice but to stay home. It's not that I don't want to. I want to, but the money thing is an important factor to consider. We can still manage anyway, so it's not really an issue.

A Career in Blogging

I started another blog. It's over at Momcenter. I'm not certain it was such a hot move since I can't monetize it. I do enjoy writing the posts, but with my limited time online (self-imposed since I obviously have other, more important things to do), maybe it's not very smart time (and writing effort) investment. I have included hyperlinks to my personal blog, so hopefully, it would at least generate hits. Anyway, it's not like I update it everyday, so I guess it's basically okay. I'm thinking of starting two more blogs (monetized ones, of course). I've had the idea knocking about in my head for months now, but procrastination is a hard habit to break. I'm thinking about trying out wordpress, but I'm not sure if I have the energy to learn features and stuff. Not that I already understand all of Blogger's.

Let's Talk Some More About Celebrities

I didn't realize I disliked so many celebrities. I don't even really like Oprah (nor do I dislike her... all the time), but I was forced to answer her in some of the questions below. They're certainly turning me off tweeting just because they're so into it.

The Fusion of Twitter and YouTube

Tweeting is all the rage and clearly not one of the few I've succumbed to. I'm wondering if I should join in though, if it should bring more hits to my blogs. Hmm, to tweet or not to tweet...

Online Opps

So I was thrilled to land a $10-paid post gig from PayPerPost this morning. I really feel grateful for that. PayPerPost usually doles out $5 ones for blogs of my pagerank (but lately, most of the opps average at $2. I take the opp if it's not too demanding, like 25 words and 1 link wouldn't bad for that amount.) Blogvertise pays higher, but opps come sporadically. I've also been taking advantage of tasks from myLot. Tasks are easy to do and instructions are pretty straightforward, so I grab as many tasks as I can. That's all I can share about online earning for now. :)

Marguerite Is True to Form

Trust Marguerite to be awake for my scheduled business call. One of my contacts in my WAH world got in touch with me about a company he's starting. We scheduled to talk over Skype at 7:30am (my time) so he could explain the concept to me. It sounded like a good idea and something I'd be interested in being involved in. I would have understood it better though if a certain cutie-patootie had not woken up at 4am, waking me up as well in the process, and/or if I had opted to eat something before the call, lol. Anyway, I may be turning over a new leaf in my WAH life. Hope this works out.

Tweeting Celebrities

Remember when celebrities didn't even know what Twitter was? Now, it's all the rage and people who've been into it in the past are kind of losing interest in it because of all the hype.

Be True to the Link Exchange

Okay, here's the thing. I earn money from my blogs so it makes sense for this post to be here. Whenever somebody asks to exchange links with me, I always oblige. My former students will tell you that I have a hard time saying "no" anyway. People who know me will also tell you that it's very rare for me to take the initiative when it comes to such things as link exchanges (like in social network sites, I usually get add-me requests and not the other way around). I'm not exactly unfriendly, it's just that my efforts are geared towards other things. If you ask for a link exchange or to be added in my contacts list, I'll probably agree to it. Anyway, I think it's a little unfair for people who approached me for a link exchange to just drop me off their list willy-nilly, especially if they're somebody I personally know. Of course, they don't owe me an explanation and neither do they need my permission to take my link off their blog, but it still feels a little unfair considering that their links remained on my blog (I already took them off, but not before letting a few weeks after discovery pass to make sure that the deletion is permanent and not some techie glitch I'll never understand) long after they'd removed mine. Anyway, it just feels like being one-upped even if it probably wasn't deliberate.

More on Susan Boyle

I know I already posted about Susan Boyle here, but since I'm a true blue Les Miz fan, I will post a conversation here (pls join in) that mentions this amazing Scottish singer. She reminds me of Paul Potts, who's another wonderfully surprising singer who wowed everybody on the same show.

Marikina Property for Sale

My mom is selling her property in Marikina. It's 380 sqm., right smack in the main business district. It's walking distance to the market, the sports center, Blue Wave, Robinson's Supermarket, the city hall, and the river parks. It's adjacent to Sumulong Highway and parallel to Shoe Ave. It's a great commercial location. She's selling it for Php 10 million, but that's negotiable. If you're interested, send me an email at spinninglovelydays[at]gmail[dot]com or contact me at (63) 927-877-6444. :)

MyLot Tasks

Hi. I waited a while before posting about this online earning opp. Anyway, you all see my MyLot invitation on the side bar, right? MyLot is like a forum-cum-social networking site and it has added a new feature to help members earn the payout amount more quickly. Basically in MyLot, you earn money by participating in discussions. Now, I admit you really have to be active to hit payout monthly, but MyLot has just added a feature wherein you can accomplish tasks and earn a bigger amount. Tasks are simple and take little time to finish. The ones I've encountered so far involve research and writing and the research part can be done by anybody. I had to wait for my task to be approved and my reward added to my account before recommending it to you guys. Anyway, if you're a WAHM and looking for ways to earn some money online, you might be interested in doing this.

Update on My WAHM Life

So I've finally had some WAHM gigs come my way lately. For one, that translation and voice recording thing has turned out to be a recurring thing, albeit sporadic. I've had some irritating things happen to me though. A post I'd made for this other paid blogging site was not approved for reasons that are not valid. They kept on pestering me to edit the post to include a certain requirement, which I had already met in the first place. Anyway, we emailed back and forth a few times. I don't think they could keep track of our exchange though since it started over a couple of times until I just gave up on them. I've also received a couple of requests from somebody I used to get transcription work from, but I got no follow-through from her. This was really annoying because it was she who contacted me first and I'd always had the courtesy to reply, even providing translation sample in one case. Now, she's not like an official representative from a company, from whom I'd still have expected a reply except it would have been more understandable not to hear from somebody like that again since it would not have been all personal. This girl however has been more like a friend although we've never met (she's in another country), but we've chatted and we're in each other's friends' lists in your token social networking sites. You'd think she'd be more considerate. Oh well, let's see if she ever contacts me again for another favor. If she does, then she's probably just really scatty or thick. Anyway, I'm just venting.

A Rockin' Convo

I missed American Idol last night, so I can't really critique anybody's performance. I can say though that Adam's tricks can get old really soon.

Nirvana Was Not Rap Metal

Yes, I was surprised that Alexis Grace went home. Personally, I think Megan Joy is overstaying, but what can you do? There's always that site, votefortheworstwhatsit, to consider. Remember Sanjaya?

Disease and WAHing

Hi there. It has been a while. It's mostly because I don't really have a regular WAH gig right now. Also, I was out of commission for over two weeks having suffered a slipped disc and a vile bout of the chicken pox. Because of said maladies, I had to welsh on two of the parenting articles I had been assigned to write. Now, I'm obsessed about getting rid of these hideous scars. Any tips?

200 Words for $.50? Come ON.

Gosh, what's with the recent opps offered at these paid blogging sites? Any lower and you can't call it paid blogging anymore. Opps used to not go lower than $5, but now Rank 2 blog authors are lucky to snag $2 opps. Man, to reserve or not to reserve...

Hello There

Hi. Still here, just not wahmming a whole lot lately. Basically, I'm obsessed about finding paid blog post gigs since I don't really feel like finding a regular writing gig again. With Marguerite down with the chicken pox, it's even clearer that it's gonna be very hard to commit to something regular.
